When we see old photos in black and white, we sometimes forget that life back then was experienced in the same vibrant colors that surround us today. Beautiful black and white photography doesn’t attract with its play of colors. Here close attention to composition, lighting, perspective and the context it is shot in are important. Looking at this old photo of Hong Kong, I get this inspiration from its amazing landscape and branch out to the idea of asian art.

Hong Kong is one of the most popular international business hubs in the world, also where cultures of East and West converge. On first acquaintance Hong Kong can overwhelm. Navigate its teeming, tightly packed sidewalks and you’re met at every turn with neon signage, steam-filled canteens, molasses-slow traffic and a Babel of chatter.

The idea is to design a contemporary style apartment. The owner is a single young professional. He has lots of ideas how he wants this apartment to be. Reaching all his requirements, I convert this fairly small space into a functional island that has a living room, office, small workout area, reading area, kitchen and bedroom. The apartment has two interesting features. One is  the bedroom that is hidden behind the bookshelf. Another is the kitchen that has an invisible door. It connects to the office area. The owner is looking forward moving into this apartment, because he can not only enjoy workout at home but also lie down on the couch and read a book.
